Gambling self-exclusion in Maine
Self-exclusion in Maine: you need two separate enrollments. Maine: Hollywood Casino Bangor and Oxford Casino. First step: Sign the form in person at the Gambling Control Unit. A fixed term ends on its own at the end of the term; a lifetime term continues until a removal is granted. Maine: sports wagering, tracks and off-track betting, run by the Maine Gambling Control Unit, Department of Public Safety. First step: Request placement in person at the Gambling Control Unit or Oxford. None substitutes for another, and this is not everything in Maine.

Before you count on it. This list covers Maine's two commercial casinos and their slot facilities. Sports wagering, commercial tracks and off-track betting are a separate Maine list with a separate form (MGCU-8500), so signing this one does nothing about those. The MGCB-2100 form is signed in person with a witnessed signature, and no mail-in route is published. Maine's rule also lets you ask for a virtual self-exclusion meeting, and ADEPT, the state's problem gambling services provider, offers one by Zoom or FaceTime for casino and sports wagering self-exclusion, so you do not have to travel to Maine. Its page does not say whether it serves someone who lives outside Maine, or how your signature is witnessed in the meeting. Maine adopted a broader rule (Chapter 13, effective 10/4/2025) describing a single universal exclusion list that would let one application reach casinos, slots, advance deposit wagering, fantasy contests and sports wagering together; the live form predates it and has no such field, so whether you can request that combined scope today is unresolved. A 1-, 3- or 5-year term ends on its own: Chapter 13 says self-exclusion 'will automatically terminate upon expiration' unless you chose lifetime. No confirmation notice to the applicant is published.

Before you count on it. Maine has two published rules for this list and they contradict each other. Chapter 63 and the live MGCU-8500 form give 1, 3 or 5 years, lifetime only after completing a term, and a 10-year total wait before removal. Chapter 13, effective 10/4/2025, allows a direct lifetime selection and removal by petition after 5 years. Both are currently published as in force, neither repeals or cross-references the other, and no official source says which one controls — ask the Gambling Control Unit before you pick a term. The Unit filed proposed changes to Chapter 63 in May 2026 that point toward the Chapter 13 design; its pages show them as proposed, not adopted. This list does not name fantasy contests or advance deposit wagering, even though Maine's universal exclusion list statute names both alongside sports wagering; whether this form reaches them or a separate route is needed is unresolved. Casinos and slot facilities are the separate MGCB-2100 list. What the operator-app enrollment flow actually requires is not published outside that operator's own app. No processing time and no confirmation notice are published.
Gambling types in Maine
One self-exclusion list rarely blocks every kind of gambling. Here is what we found for each type of gambling in this state.
How we checked
These are the kinds of gambling we checked. The list may not include every way to gamble in the state.
Maine runs two separate statewide exclusion lists, both administered by the Gambling Control Unit and Board. Form MGCB-2100 covers the state's two land-based commercial casinos and their slot facilities, Hollywood Casino Bangor and Oxford Casino. You enroll in person with a witnessed signature at one of three named locations, and a lifetime term can be removed by written petition after 5 years. Form MGCU-8500 covers retail and mobile sports betting plus commercial tracks and off-track betting, and you can enroll in person or through a licensed mobile betting app's own platform. That form's terms are 1, 3 or 5 years. Lifetime is available only after you complete a term, and you must be on the list 10 years in total before removal. Maine adopted a newer, broader rule (Chapter 13, effective October 4, 2025) that describes a single 'universal exclusion list' meant to let one application reach casinos, slot facilities, advance deposit wagering, fantasy contests and sports wagering. It also describes a direct lifetime option and removal after 5 years. Neither current form has been updated to match it, and its terms conflict with the older rule for sports wagering. Both rules are published as in force, and neither repeals or mentions the other. Fantasy contests and advance deposit wagering are named in the state's universal list law, but we found no form or route for either, so we don't know whether either is reachable today. Maine authorizes online casino-style 'Internet Gaming', but no Board rule has been adopted for it and the Board's notices show only pending rulemaking hearings, which fits a product that hasn't launched. We found no exclusion mechanism for it. The state lottery's site offers a self-assessment quiz and referral links and no exclusion program. The lottery isn't named in the universal list law, though that isn't an official statement that it is out of scope. We found no tribal casino named in Maine's gaming laws or on the Gambling Control Unit's casino listing, and no source says a tribe may not run one. We haven't looked at charitable gaming, video gaming terminals, skill games or card rooms beyond a glance at the site's menus. Anyone can request exclusion from either program, including people from out of state, but the in-person witnessed signature is a real burden if you live elsewhere. We checked the official sources linked on this page, not every way to gamble in the state.
How Maine's programs fit together
Maine has two separate exclusion lists, one for its two casinos and one for sports betting and racetracks, and you sign up for each on its own form.
What we know about each one
Maine has two lists with two forms and no shared application, so if both casinos and sports betting matter to you, you may need to complete both. Each is a separate sign-up, and joining one doesn't enroll you in the other. Signing up for both still doesn't cover every way to gamble in the state.
