What to know before you start

Self-exclusion is rarely one list. A state often runs separate programs for casinos, online gambling, sports betting, the lottery and racing, and tribal casinos run their own. Finishing one does not put you on the others, and even one step helps.

Having a form online is not always the same as being able to sign up online. On every state page, we spell out whether you can enroll online, by mail, or in person, and whether you need a notary.

Every fact carries one of four labels, and how we check facts explains each one. Where a program or gambling type on a state page is marked not checked yet, we haven't finished reviewing it — that is not a statement that no program exists. You can also check the NVSEP state directory.
