When each exclusion ends

Some exclusions end on their own when the term runs out. Some last until you ask to come off, or until someone approves your request. Some have no published way to lift them at all. Know which one you are signing.

Covers all 51 state pages and uses the same records they do. Each state shows the date it was last reviewed. How we check facts.

No published way to lift it 4 programs

These programs publish no way to come off the list.

  • Iowa Lottery: prize redemption and lottery play at regional offices State regulator

How removal works. Once made, the choice of term is irrevocable and cannot be rescinded. A removal request is available only to people who signed on or before June 30, 2017, after being listed at least five years; no removal route is published for anyone signing after that date, whichever term they choose.

On a lifetime term. Lifetime is one of the two terms offered; the same irrevocability and removal limits apply. No removal route is published for a lifetime choice made after June 30, 2017.

On the page for Iowa reviewed 2026-10-02.

  • Kansas: retail and online/mobile sports wagering State regulator

How removal works. KRGC publishes no way off this list. Its page says a person will not be removed prematurely, and neither its page, its form, K.S.A. 74-8790 nor K.A.R. 112-201-22 describes a procedure for the end of a two-year or five-year term. Ask the Commission what your end date means rather than treating it as something that lapses on its own.

On a lifetime term. Lifetime is one of the term checkboxes on the Commission's form. No source describes any procedure for ending it.

On the page for Kansas reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Missouri: Lottery prizes over $600 and the players club State regulator

How removal works. A voluntary lifetime self-ban. The Lottery publishes no removal process at all, so neither an end date nor a way off the list is on record.

On a lifetime term. Lifetime is the only term, and no removal process is published for it.

On the page for Missouri reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • Oklahoma Lottery: lifetime ban on claiming prizes State regulator

How removal works. This is a lifetime agreement with no removal process published. The Lottery's own page calls it a lifetime self-ban and the agreement says 'forever'; neither document describes a removal, revocation, appeal or petition process of any kind.

On a lifetime term. Lifetime is the only term this program offers — there is nothing shorter to choose.

On the page for Oklahoma reviewed 2026-09-24.

Ends on its own at the end of the term 27 programs

A fixed term here ends without you doing anything. Where the program also offers a lifetime term, its rule is shown separately.

  • Arizona: casinos, sports betting and fantasy sports State regulator

The FAQ states the name is removed when the chosen duration ends; the term is irrevocable until then and no expiration notice is sent. Staying excluded past that point takes a new notarized application and a current color photo.

On the page for Arizona reviewed 2026-10-06.

  • Arizona: tribal casinos State regulator

The FAQ states the name is removed when the chosen duration ends; the term is irrevocable until then and no expiration notice is sent. Staying excluded past that point takes a new notarized application and a current color photo.

On the page for Arizona reviewed 2026-10-06.

  • California: every licensed card room statewide State regulator

A fixed term. A one-year term ends on its own — the form's two options are one year or lifetime, and the one-year term carries no removal filing.

A lifetime term. A lifetime term stays in force until you file for removal. You have to have been on the list at least a year, then mail a notarized or witnessed Self-Exclusion Removal Request (CGCC-CH7-06) to the Bureau's P.O. Box; removal takes effect the first business day of the second whole month after the postmark. The removal form (CGCC-CH7-06) says it is not effective until the Bureau acknowledges the request, so wait for that notice.

On the page for California reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Connecticut: Foxwoods patron voluntary exclusion (gaming floor only) Tribal gaming commission

A fixed term. A Five-Year exclusion is automatically rescinded once, at the five-year mark, with nothing required from you — a one-time allowance. Any later request after you have used it is restricted to Permanent. No process is published for ending a Five-Year term before the five years elapse.

A lifetime term. Permanent is one of the two terms the form offers and is irreversible; no removal process is published for it.

On the page for Connecticut reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Florida: Seminole Tribe casinos and Hard Rock Bet only Tribal gaming commission

A fixed term. A one-year or five-year term comes off the list on its own when it expires, and the form describes no appeal process. A lifetime term stays in place until you ask for removal in writing: the form directs that request to the Seminole Tribal Gaming Commission, Attn: Executive Director, 6300 Stirling Rd., Hollywood, FL 33024, and it may be submitted only after five years have passed. No source says who decides such a request or how long it takes.

A lifetime term. A lifetime term is offered alongside the one-year and five-year terms. The form states it may be terminated only by written request to the Seminole Tribal Gaming Commission, Attn: Executive Director, 6300 Stirling Rd., Hollywood, FL 33024, submitted after five years have passed. No approval, hearing or decision step is described either way.

On the page for Florida reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Iowa: casinos, racetracks, sports wagering and fantasy sports (IRGC) State regulator

A fixed term. A five-year term ends automatically and cannot be shortened; nothing further needs to be filed.

A lifetime term. A lifetime term entered on or after 2017-07-01 cannot be ended under any circumstance. Only someone who enrolled on or before 2017-06-30, in either term, may separately petition for revocation under a 2017 statutory carve-out.

On the page for Iowa reviewed 2026-10-02.

  • Kentucky: the online Kentucky Lottery account only (Fun Club / iLottery) State regulator

A fixed term. The exclusion "cannot be reversed" while its term runs, and then it lapses on its own. The Lottery wrote to us on 2026-10-05: "Accounts that are not permanently self-excluded will automatically be re-opened at the end of the selected exclusion time period, as set forth in the iLottery Terms of Use." The iLottery Terms of Use (Version 12.1, June 2026) say exactly that, and so does the Self-Exclusion page in the account: "At the end of the selected timeframe, your account will automatically be reopened, unless you selected to close your account permanently." Nothing is required of you, and no advance warning is promised, so plan for the end date yourself. Two of the Lottery's pages still print the old, wrong instruction to call Customer Service: the Fun Club Terms of Use, which the Lottery has told us is an error it will update, and the FAQ, which its answer did not mention. Customer Service is 877-789-4532 either way.

A lifetime term. A permanent option sits alongside the temporary lengths, and it is the one the automatic reopening does not touch. Both terms documents: "If you elected to self-exclude your account permanently, you may never re-open your account or register for a new account."

On the page for Kentucky reviewed 2026-10-05.

  • Maine: Hollywood Casino Bangor and Oxford Casino State regulator

A fixed term. Chapter 13 sec.8(1)(A): 'Except for those persons choosing a lifetime self-exclusion, self-exclusion will automatically terminate upon expiration of the period of self-exclusion.' A 1-, 3- or 5-year term ends on the last day of the month it began in, and the Board then deletes your name and tells the operators (sec.8(1)(C)). The Gambling Control Unit's instructions say the same about the expiry date.

A lifetime term. A lifetime enrollee may, after five years, ask the Board in writing for removal. The request must give a detailed explanation, any history of violations, and verification of a reinstatement session with an approved problem gambling services agency (Chapter 13 sec.8(1)(B)). The Board decides; the instructions say you 'can request' removal and do not promise it, and the form you sign says 'my petition for relief may be denied'.

On the page for Maine reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Maine: sports wagering, tracks and off-track betting State regulator

A fixed term. A 1-, 3- or 5-year term ends on its own on the last day of the month it began in. Chapter 63 sec.2(H) says terms 'shall automatically terminate upon expiration', and Chapter 13 sec.8(1)(A) says the same for every list it covers.

A lifetime term. Not verified: Two rules published as in force disagree about a lifetime term, and neither repeals the other. Chapter 63 and the live form allow lifetime only after you complete a fixed term, with 10 years total before removal may be requested. Chapter 13, effective 10/4/2025, allows a direct lifetime selection and removal by petition after 5 years. Until the Gambling Control Unit resolves that, do not count on a date for ending a lifetime term.

On the page for Maine reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Michigan: Gun Lake Casino (Wayland) Tribal gaming commission

A fixed term. A one-year exclusion ends after 365 days if the Commission finds no violation. A violation moves you to the permanent list.

A lifetime term. A permanent exclusion can be reviewed only on a written reinstatement request, made after 365 days and at most once a year, and the Commission Board decides.

On the page for Michigan reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • Michigan: online casino and online sports betting State regulator

Removal is automatic when the selected one or five year period expires, separately for internet gaming and internet sports betting. There is no early removal.

On the page for Michigan reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • Mississippi: land-based casinos and retail/simulcast sports wagering State regulator

A fixed term. Your name comes off the list on its own when your chosen term ends, with nothing further to file. The minimum term is three years. A lifetime term needs a 3-year exclusion already on file, and no Commission publication describes a way to end it.

A lifetime term. A lifetime term is available only after at least 3 years of exclusion are on file (User Guide; FAQ). The current Rule 10.5 only provides for deletion at the end of a period, and no Commission publication describes a petition or other way to end a lifetime term.

On the page for Mississippi reviewed 2026-10-01.

  • Missouri: sports betting, online and in person State regulator

Removal is automatic at the end of the five-year period, and the Commission is not authorized to remove anyone sooner. Staying on the list takes a request in the final three months, repeatable for further five-year terms.

On the page for Missouri reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • New Mexico: racetrack casinos and, with the statewide option, tribal casinos State regulator

A fixed term. The form states no action is needed at a normal expiration, so a chosen fixed term comes off by itself. Early removal is a different route: a verified petition the Board has ninety days to act on, which it cannot grant inside the first year and which puts the burden on the petitioner. A lifetime term does not expire.

A lifetime term. A lifetime term does not expire. The only route off the list is the verified petition to the Board, which has ninety days to act, cannot grant it inside the first year and places the burden on the petitioner.

On the page for New Mexico reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • New York: statewide Voluntary Self-Exclusion (VSE) State regulator

A fixed term. A one, three or five year term is removed automatically when it expires, unless a person requests an extension in writing at least 30 days before it ends. No removal mechanism is published for the lifetime term.

A lifetime term. Lifetime is one of the offered terms. No removal mechanism is published for it.

On the page for New York reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • North Carolina: Education Lottery online play only State regulator

A fixed term. You choose a temporary block or a permanent exclusion. The lottery says 'An exclusion cannot be reversed.' A temporary one ends when its period does, and you can then sign in with your previous credentials. No one lifts either kind early. The lottery does not say how long a temporary block can run. A date you write down proves nothing on its own — ask the Online Play Support Center what is on record.

A lifetime term. A permanent exclusion does not end. The FAQ: 'With the exception of a permanent exclusion, you will be able to sign into your NCEL Account with your previous credentials after the exclusion period ends.'

On the page for North Carolina reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • North Carolina: sports wagering and pari-mutuel wagering statewide State regulator

A fixed term. Your name comes off the list on its own when the term you selected is complete: "Your name will automatically be removed from the list when the time period you selected is complete." Nothing needs to be filed for that. Early removal is separate. Under 24 NCAC 06A .0603 any excluded person can ask for it: a reinstatement session with a Commission agent, then a petition to the Commission's Director on a Commission form, then a 30-day wait. The Commission's page gives mistaken identity or fraud as examples, not as the only reasons. No agent contact, address or form is published, only GamingCompliance@ncgaming.gov for questions about the removal process.

A lifetime term. A lifetime term is offered alongside one, three and five years, chosen by the applicant. The automatic-removal sentence is keyed to "the time period you selected" being complete, which a lifetime election never reaches. The Commission's rule 24 NCAC 06A .0603 covers any voluntarily excluded person, lifetime included: a reinstatement session with a designated agent, a petition to the Director on a Commission form, then a 30-day waiting period before reinstatement. No agent contact, address or form is published.

On the page for North Carolina reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Oregon: sports betting through the Lottery's mobile account State regulator

A fixed term. For a set period the operator states the account becomes available for regular use again afterwards, and that it is not permitted to shorten it. The period ends without anything required of the person. Whether Oregon offers a lifetime option is not established.

A lifetime term. Not verified: DraftKings' own page lists a lifetime option among its durations for every state it serves, and the Oregon Lottery wrote on 2026-10-06 that it sets no limit on the timeframe. Neither establishes that the Oregon menu offers lifetime; nobody has seen it.

On the page for Oregon reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • Pennsylvania: fantasy contests State regulator

Removal happens at the conclusion of the chosen period, which the applicant sets as any whole number of years from one to ninety-nine. The chapter carries no early-removal or petition clause.

On the page for Pennsylvania reviewed 2026-09-18.

  • Pennsylvania: online casino and sports betting apps State regulator

A fixed term. At the conclusion of the chosen period the individual is removed without further action. Early removal takes a petition to the Office of Hearings and Appeals, and a lifetime exclusion may be petitioned after ten years.

A lifetime term. A lifetime exclusion has no conclusion to be removed at; it may be petitioned after ten years through the Office of Hearings and Appeals, and nothing ends it before a petition is granted.

On the page for Pennsylvania reviewed 2026-09-18.

  • Pennsylvania: video gaming terminals at truck stops State regulator

A fixed term. Removal happens at the conclusion of the chosen one, five or lifetime period, without further action.

A lifetime term. A lifetime period has no conclusion for the automatic removal to follow, and the reviewed chapter records no petition or early-removal route for it.

On the page for Pennsylvania reviewed 2026-09-18.

  • Prediction-market self-exclusion Shared operator program

The FAQ says that when the selected duration ends, the exclusion ends automatically and platforms are told to lift the restrictions. You can re-enroll at any time. The terms call the exclusion irrevocable before the term ends.

On the page for Idaho reviewed 2026-09-09, Nevada reviewed 2026-09-09, Utah reviewed 2026-09-09.

  • Rhode Island Lottery: iLottery / VIP Club online account State regulator

A fixed term. Login privileges are automatically restored once the 1-year or 5-year period you selected ends. No removal request is filed and no approval is involved. It cannot be reversed before the period ends.

A lifetime term. Not verified: The selectable list in the self-exclusion flow offers 1 year and 5 years only. The site's confirmation dialog template also carries a 'permanently self-excluded' message state, so whether a permanent option exists somewhere is unresolved.

On the page for Rhode Island reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Vermont: mobile sports wagering (statewide list) State regulator

A fixed term. A 1-, 3- or 5-year term ends on its own: the Department states you are removed from the list once you reach the end of the period you selected. No way to shorten the term is described.

A lifetime term. A lifetime selection has no removal process. The Department states that if you choose lifetime, you will not be able to remove yourself from the list, and it describes no petition or appeal.

On the page for Vermont reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Virginia: lottery accounts, casinos, sports betting, charitable gaming, fantasy contests and horse racing State regulator

A fixed term. For a two-year or five-year term your name comes off the list on its own when the term ends, with nothing to file: 'the department shall remove the individual's name from the self-exclusion list and notify each sports betting permit holder, each casino gaming establishment, the Office of Charitable and Regulatory Programs, and the Virginia Racing Commission of the removal' (11VAC5-60-50.A). Those operators then have seven days to update their own copies. Nothing renews on its own: the Lottery's FAQ says anyone who wants to extend for another two or five years should contact it before their period ends. There is no early-removal path in any of Chapter 60's six sections; § 58.1-4103.B.3 contemplates a Board regulatory exception that would allow an early petition, and none was found in Chapter 60 or in the Lottery Board's other regulations as read on 2026-10-01.

A lifetime term. A lifetime term is one of the three offered alongside two and five years. Chapter 60's only removal rule operates at the end of a chosen term, so it does not reach a lifetime election, and no source read publishes any other way off the list — including the early petition § 58.1-4103.B.3 says the Board may allow by regulation, which does not appear in Chapter 60.

On the page for Virginia reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Washington's Lottery self-exclusion State regulator

The Lottery removes you automatically once your chosen period of 1, 3 or 5 years runs out, with nothing to file. No way to shorten the term is described.

On the page for Washington reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • West Virginia: the iPlay online lottery account State regulator

A fixed term. A temporary exclusion ends on its own at the length you chose, with nothing further to file: "With the exception of a permanent exclusion, you will be able to sign into your iPlay Account with your previous credentials after the exclusion period ends." It cannot be reversed before then. The permanent option is the exception and is covered below.

A lifetime term. A permanent exclusion is offered alongside the temporary lengths. The page states "an exclusion cannot be reversed" and carves out only temporary terms from the automatic restoration of access, and no Lottery publication describes a petition, appeal or any other way to end a permanent iPlay exclusion.

On the page for West Virginia reviewed 2026-09-24.

Continues until you request removal 15 programs

Nothing here ends on its own. Removal starts with your request, and each program sets its own conditions. Read them before you count on a date.

  • Connecticut statewide Voluntary Self-Exclusion list (not the tribal casino floors) State regulator

A fixed term. Your name does not come off when the one-year or five-year term runs out. It stays on the list until you affirmatively request removal, with identity re-verification comparable to the verification performed when you went on. A lifetime selection can never be removed.

A lifetime term. Lifetime is one of the three terms offered, and the form states a lifetime selection can never be removed.

On the page for Connecticut reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Delaware Statewide Self-Exclusion Program State regulator

A fixed term. A 1-year or 5-year term does not lapse on its own. Once your period has ended you can go to the Lottery office in person and ask for reinstatement. Whether the Lottery can refuse is not stated.

A lifetime term. Lifetime is one of the three terms offered at enrollment, and the Lottery states it cannot be removed. No removal mechanism is published for it.

On the page for Delaware reviewed 2026-10-01.

  • Georgia: your online Georgia Lottery account only State regulator

Your account does not come back on its own when the period ends. It stays suspended until you ask. Reinstatement takes a call to the Player Information Hotline at 1-800-GA-LUCKY (1-800-425-8259). The Corporation says it "will exercise due diligence in evaluating your request" and starts reinstatement "upon a satisfactory evaluation", which it expects to take about 10 business days. So reinstatement is not automatic, and the Corporation does not publish what it looks for. No self-service reinstatement is described. During the term the Corporation states the process cannot be reversed for any reason.

On the page for Georgia reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Indiana: casinos, sportsbooks, off-track betting locations and mobile sports wagering (VEP) State regulator

A fixed term. One- and five-year terms do not end on their own -- the participant must submit a written Request for Removal (State Form 52323) after the term expires, and the Board must act on it within an unquantified 'reasonable time period.'

A lifetime term. A lifetime term has no published removal path.

On the page for Indiana reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Indiana: mobile sports wagering only (ISRP) State regulator

The restriction does not end on its own; it continues until the person notifies the IGC of their wish to be removed, which can only happen after the chosen term expires. Removal is not effective until the person receives written notice from the IGC.

On the page for Indiana reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Montana: sports betting through a Sports Bet Montana account State regulator

A fixed term. Removal is not automatic: after the chosen period ends the account has to be manually reactivated, so the exclusion continues until the person acts. The minimum is six months and the operator's terms also allow a permanent exclusion.

A lifetime term. Not verified: The operator's terms allow a permanent exclusion, but the sources do not say whether a permanent account exclusion can ever be reactivated.

On the page for Montana reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • New Hampshire: sports betting through your DraftKings account State regulator

The Commission's Director of Sports Betting answered in writing on 2026-10-22 that after a one-year or five-year term expires, the person must log in and complete a self-exclusion reinstatement attestation before resuming play; the term itself cannot be shortened or canceled early.

On the page for New Hampshire reviewed 2026-10-01.

  • New Jersey: Atlantic City casinos, racetrack sportsbooks and online gambling State regulator

A fixed term. The name remains on the list until the person requests removal; it does not lapse at the end of the chosen one or five year term. A lifetime exclusion cannot be removed at all.

A lifetime term. A lifetime exclusion cannot be removed at all. It is only available at an in-person or video appointment, not through the online routes.

On the page for New Jersey reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • New Jersey: racetracks, off-track wagering and horse betting accounts State regulator

The exclusion runs indefinitely after a one-year minimum. The name remains listed until a removal request is submitted, which cannot happen inside the first year.

On the page for New Jersey reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • Ohio: casinos, racinos and sports gaming (Time Out Ohio) State regulator

How removal works. Ohio VEP participants are not automatically removed from the program at the end of their term. The 1-year and 5-year tiers can be removed on request, via an unaltered removal application, once the chosen minimum has been served.

On a lifetime term. Lifetime enrollment can only be removed after at least 5 years enrolled, completing the Ohio VEP's own problem-gambling education program, and requesting/completing an unaltered removal application.

On the page for Ohio reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Pennsylvania: casinos and in-person sports betting State regulator

A fixed term. A casino self-exclusion does not expire. The person remains listed indefinitely unless removal is actively requested after the chosen period, and a lifetime exclusion may only be petitioned after ten years with a certified provider assessment.

A lifetime term. A lifetime exclusion may only be petitioned after ten years, with a certified provider assessment; a request alone does not end it.

  • Station Casinos: self-limit at Red Rock, Green Valley Ranch, Durango and the Station casinos Casino operator

A fixed term. "After one year, if a guest wishes to rescind their request to Self-limit Access, they will again need to contact the Security Office to verify their identification and complete a Rescind the Request to Self-limit Access form."

A lifetime term. Not verified: The page describes a one-year minimum and a rescind form. It does not say whether a lifetime term is offered.

On the page for Nevada reviewed 2026-09-09.

  • Washington: every house-banked card room statewide State regulator

Your name does not come off when the term ends. After the chosen period, removal takes a separate notarized Removal Form (GC4-035) mailed to the same PO Box, or an in-person appointment at Commission headquarters, and you stay listed until the Commission receives and processes the request.

On the page for Washington reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Wyoming: online sports betting, horse racing wagering and skill games State regulator

A fixed term. Your name continues on the list until a formal removal request has been filed with the Commission, and you can only file once your chosen period has expired. The Commission set out the three steps in writing on 2026-10-02: the request goes in through the NVSEP website and is routed to its Responsible Gaming Liaison; the Liaison mails you a certified letter confirming it arrived; and you then have to call the Commission on 307-265-4015 to finalize the request. Filing it is not the last step.

A lifetime term. A removal request may only be filed once the chosen period has expired, and no source records a route for a lifetime period, which does not expire. The Commission's written answer describes how a removal request is handled without saying whether a lifetime registration can be removed at all.

  • Colorado: casinos and sports betting State regulator

Removal is not automatic when the one, three or five year term ends: the applicant must request removal and obtain Division Director approval. Early removal may be petitioned for, not assumed.

  • Connecticut: Mohegan Sun self-exclusion (gaming floor only) Tribal gaming commission

The exclusion does not lift at the end of the one-year or five-year term. You have to write to the Director of Security requesting rescission, and an ejection committee panel has to confirm it.

On the page for Connecticut reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • District of Columbia: lottery and sports wagering together State regulator

A fixed term. Your term running out does not take you off the list. You stay on it until you submit a petition for removal and the Office approves it. Two current OLG documents disagree about what that petition requires: the codified regulation describes a petition plus an in-person removal session with a designated agent, and OLG's FY2024 Responsible Gambling Plan instead requires an affidavit from a licensed mental health professional who is a certified gambling addiction counselor. Neither is marked superseded.

A lifetime term. Not verified: A lifetime term is offered, and it is only available once your name has already been on the list six months or more. No source says whether the removal petition that ends a fixed term can also end a lifetime election, so how a lifetime term ends is not established.

On the page for District of Columbia reviewed 2026-10-01.

  • Four Queens / Binion's (TLC Casinos) Casino operator

The form states the self-limit continues until an approved withdrawal, after a one-year minimum.

On the page for Nevada reviewed 2026-09-09.

  • Four Winds casinos (Michigan and South Bend, Indiana): tribal casino exclusion Tribal gaming commission

The exclusion stays in effect until the person receives written PBGC permission otherwise. Reinstatement requires a written request the Commission must approve, available only after the two-year minimum and only if the person has no more than one prior exclusion.

On the page for Indiana reviewed 2026-09-24, Michigan reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • Illinois Lottery Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program (VSEP) State regulator

How removal works. You cannot request removal until 5 years have passed since you were placed on the list. Removal requires written treatment documentation and a signed liability waiver, and a request filed before the 5 years are up is denied outright.

On a lifetime term. Lifetime is a term you choose (available only after 6 months already on the list), not a separate removal rule -- the same 5-year-minimum, written-request-and-approval process applies.

On the page for Illinois reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Illinois: casinos and sports wagering statewide Self-Exclusion Program State regulator

How removal works. No removal is possible before 5 years have passed. After that, you send a written request to the Board's Administrator at its Chicago office, with treatment documentation, a letter from a counselor or psychiatrist, and a signed liability waiver. A denial can be appealed with a notarized petition filed within 10 days.

On a lifetime term. A lifetime exclusion is available and works the same way for removal -- no removal at all until 5 years pass, then the same written request and appeal process.

  • Kansas: the four state-owned casinos and race-meet locations State regulator

A fixed term. Your name does not come off on its own. After two years from your application date you can petition the Commission's executive director, who approves or denies each petition (K.A.R. 112-112-9). You have to show the Commission a problem gambling assessment with a certified gambling counselor or another method it approves, completion of a Commission-approved education program on healthy lifestyle choices and problem gambling awareness, any other requirement the Commission sets, and a signed authorization and release on a Commission form. You are removed when the executive director mails the approved notice. If the petition is denied you stay on the list. Removal questions go to the Responsible Gambling Coordinator on 785-296-5800. How long the term runs is unresolved between KRGC's own current pages.

A lifetime term. Not verified: K.A.R. 112-112-9(a) lets "any person on the self-exclusion list" petition after two years and does not mention a lifetime election. The brochure says a participant who chose two years or a lifetime may be removed "once the time period chosen has concluded", and the sample application and overview page offer lifetime as a choice. No page says in terms whether a lifetime election can be ended. Two official readings, so unknown.

  • Louisiana: casinos, racinos and sports wagering statewide State regulator

A fixed term. Removal is never automatic. After the five-year minimum has passed, coming off the list requires a written request, a hearing before the Board's Hearing Officer, and a decision from the Board that there is no longer a basis to remain on the list. Even after removal, individual casinos may still choose to deny access.

A lifetime term. Not verified: No source states whether the program offers a longer or lifetime term beyond the five-year minimum; the form and instructions describe only a minimum five-year term with no other tier mentioned.

On the page for Louisiana reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Maryland Voluntary Exclusion Program (VEP) State regulator

A fixed term. Nothing comes off the list at the end of the 2-year minimum on its own, and the written request is the first step, not the last. After 2 years you send a written request to the Commission's Responsible Gaming Department, 1800 Washington Blvd., Suite 330, Baltimore, MD 21230, or responsible.gaming@maryland.gov, showing the COMAR 36.01.03.06 requirements are met. MLGCA's Responsible Gaming program told us in writing on 2026-10-02 what happens next: the Commission sends you the instructions for removal, and you then complete either a Commission-approved problem gambling treatment and prevention program or a Commission-approved healthy decision-making program run with a licensed professional counselor. After that you sign and submit an Authorization and Release form and an Application for Removal form, and an official removal letter comes once the removal has been processed. No hearing is required. There is no fixed turnaround — the agency says the time varies with how long you take to finish the requirements — so 2 years is a minimum and not an end date, and the work after the request is yours to do. The agency's overview page describes this more narrowly, as a problem gambling assessment by a state-certified professional, any treatment that assessment recommends, and then a treatment and prevention program; it names no healthy decision-making option. Go by the instructions the Commission sends you.

A lifetime term. Not verified: Life is one of the two terms the application offers ('At least 2 years OR Life'), but no source says what governs removal from it. COMAR 36.01.03.06 lets 'the individual' who has been on the list 'for at least 2 years' request removal and never mentions Life, and the application says only 'I will be on the List for at least two years, and maybe for life.' Whether a Life term can be removed, and how, is not established.

  • Massachusetts Voluntary Self-Exclusion (VSE) State regulator

A fixed term. Nothing comes off the list automatically when a term runs out. Your name stays on it until you complete a reinstatement session with a designated agent and a removal petition is approved.

A lifetime term. Not verified: Lifetime is one of the four terms offered. What governs it afterwards is not established: the sources describe one removal path for the fixed terms, a reinstatement session and an approved petition, and never say whether a lifetime election can be petitioned off at all. The two of them also disagree about when lifetime can be elected in the first place.

  • MGM Resorts: self-limit at MGM casinos Casino operator

The form states enrollment continues until MGM approves a withdrawal request, after a minimum of one year. Nothing ends on its own, and it is the approval rather than the request that ends it.

  • Michigan: FireKeepers Casino Hotel (Battle Creek) Tribal gaming commission

How removal works. Additions to the list are permanent unless the Executive Director specifies otherwise. You may petition in writing for removal, no more often than once a year. The Commission can approve it without a hearing when neither its staff nor the casino opposes; otherwise it holds one.

On a lifetime term. Permanent is the only term, so the same rule applies: a written petition at most once a year, and the Commission's approval, with a hearing if its staff or the casino opposes.

On the page for Michigan reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • Michigan: the three Detroit casinos State regulator

How removal works. Placement is for life. A removal request may not be made earlier than five years after placement, and removal is not effective until the Board processes it and notifies the person in writing.

On a lifetime term. Lifetime is the only term, so the same removal rule applies: a request no earlier than five years after placement, effective only once the Board processes it.

On the page for Michigan reviewed 2026-09-17.

  • Missouri: casinos State regulator

How removal works. Placement is for life. Removal is not automatic: a person may petition for it no sooner than five years after placement, and re-enrolling after a removal is irrevocable for life.

On a lifetime term. For life is the only term, so the same rule applies: a petition no sooner than five years after placement.

  • Nebraska Self-Exclusion Program State regulator

A fixed term. Your name does not come off when your term ends. Removal takes a petition plus an in-person session with a Commission-designated agent, who signs it, and a petition filed before your term expires is denied automatically. You can extend a term and never shorten one.

A lifetime term. Lifetime is one of the four terms offered, available only after at least 6 months on the list. Title 296 states a lifetime selection can never be petitioned for removal, and no other route off the list is published for it.

On the page for Nebraska reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • New York: Seneca Gaming Corporation (Niagara, Allegany, Buffalo Creek) Tribal gaming commission

How removal works. The exclusion has no set end date. Removal requires a written letter (name, date of birth, current mailing address) after at least one year, which the Seneca Gaming Authority must approve.

On a lifetime term. Indefinite is the only term offered; removal requires the same approved written request after the one-year minimum.

On the page for New York reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Oklahoma: all Osage Casino properties Tribal gaming commission

A fixed term. The ban is an irrevocable one year. It then stays in effect until Osage Casino gives written notice that it's lifted, after an Exclusion Repeal Request and possibly a hearing before the Executive Repeal Committee.

A lifetime term. Not verified: The form lists one term, an irrevocable one-year ban, and doesn't say whether a lifetime ban is available.

  • Oklahoma: one form OAPGG forwards to the casinos on its list Shared program

OAPGG cannot take you off. To come off — before your term ends or after it — you have to contact each participating tribe's Gaming Commission individually, and each one decides. Some will not remove, modify or alter the application once they have accepted it.

On the page for Oklahoma reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • Rhode Island: Bally's Lincoln and Tiverton casinos, sportsbook and iGaming State regulator

A fixed term. Nothing comes off on its own. No removal is possible during the first year whichever term you chose, and after that a termination request has to be approved by casino management, plus you must complete gambling education and consult a problem gambling specialist. Lincoln's FAQ names 'Bally's Lincoln Casino Resort management/RI Lottery approvals'; Tiverton's names only 'Tiverton Casino Hotel management approvals'. No source resolves which applies where.

A lifetime term. Not verified: Permanent is one of the three terms on the form. What governs it afterwards is not established: the form's own removal-after-one-year clause is written for the exclusion generally, neither property's FAQ restates that carve-out for a Permanent selection, and no source says whether Permanent can be terminated at all.

On the page for Rhode Island reviewed 2026-09-24.

  • South Dakota: Deadwood Mountain Grand, Silverado and Franklin Casino operator

How removal works. It stays in place until you ask to withdraw and casino management approves; the form says removal is not automatic. The criteria they apply are not published. The form does not say whether the 90-day and 2-year terms lapse on their own.

On a lifetime term. Permanent is one of the three terms the form offers. A permanent exclusion may be re-evaluated after 5 years with documentation, and removal still requires a withdrawal request that casino management approves.

On the page for South Dakota reviewed 2026-10-07.

  • West Virginia: racetrack casinos, the Greenbrier, iGaming and sports wagering State regulator

How removal works. Nothing lapses on its own. The form states you "will be on the list permanently unless a determination is made by the West Virginia Lottery Commission, or a court of law, to the contrary," and Rule 179-08 §129.5 confirms self-exclusions fall in the permanent bucket. Coming off takes a written petition on Form CAS-F003 and a Commission decision under Rule 179-08 §130, WV Code §29A-5-1 et seq. and the Lottery's Administrative Appeals Procedures rule (179 CSR 2). The Commission "will consider removal ... after one year from the date of the exclusion." Whether a petition filed sooner is categorically refused or merely disfavored is not settled by Rule 179-08 §130, which states no minimum waiting period of its own.

On a lifetime term. The program offers no selectable term at all: every enrollment is permanent by default, so the permanent tier and the ordinary tier are the same thing and the written-petition route above is the only published way off the list. Rule 179-08 §129.5's minimum-180-day temporary exclusion is a separate, cause-based disruptive-conduct list, not a shorter self-exclusion option.

  • Wisconsin: Potawatomi Casino Hotel self-restriction Tribal gaming commission

A fixed term. The restriction runs a one-year minimum and renews automatically every year. It stays in place until you send a written request to lift it, a committee reviews it, and they tell you the decision. Where that request goes, and to whom, is not published.

A lifetime term. Not verified: The page describes one term: a one-year minimum that renews annually until a written removal request is approved. It does not say whether a longer or permanent term can be chosen instead.

What nobody has stated is how a term ends on its own. Nothing says whether your name comes off when a 6-month, 1-, 2- or 5-year term runs out or stays on until you ask, and nothing says whether an indefinite exclusion can be lifted at all. • Tennessee: fantasy sports contests, one operator at a time Casino operator

Not verified: Not established. Rule 1350-05 sets a floor and nothing more: a self-excluded person may not re-enter fantasy contests until at least 30 days have passed. A minimum is not an end date, and no source says whether the exclusion lifts on its own at 30 days, runs longer, or takes a request to lift. Each operator sets that itself, and none of the listed operators publishes its rule. Ask the operator when you make the request.

  • Tennessee: online and mobile sports betting State regulator

Not verified: Not established. The Council's application offers terms of 1, 3 or 5 years (read 2026-10-01), but no source says whether the listing ends by itself when the term does, or whether you must ask. The only removal route the rule describes is for someone who believes they were placed on a list inadvertently: that person 'may request the application for removal from the Council,' and 'submission of the application for removal does not guarantee removal.' No source states what standard the Council applies, and a licensee may separately choose to exclude you permanently from its own platforms regardless of the period you asked for. Do not assume your name comes off on a particular date until the Council tells you so.
