Gambling self-exclusion in Michigan
Self-exclusion in Michigan: you need two separate enrollments. Michigan: the three Detroit casinos, run by the Michigan Gaming Control Board. First step: Call 888-223-3044 to book your appointment. It continues until a removal is granted. Michigan: online casino and online sports betting, run by the Michigan Gaming Control Board. First step: Email the notarized application to MGCB-RGD@michigan.gov. It ends on its own at the end of the term. None substitutes for another, and this is not everything in Michigan.

Asking a program for a form or an answer does not enroll you.

| Michigan: online casino and online sports bettingState regulator Run by Michigan Gaming Control Board. | By email By mail In person Email the notarized application to MGCB-RGD@michigan.gov. | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Confirmed | Not confirmed | Ends at the end of the term | |
Before you count on it. Use MGCB-RGD@michigan.gov. The Board has a second, near-identical mailbox, MGCB-DPL@michigan.gov, that handles removals from the casino list only; an application sent there enrolls you in nothing. Removal from this database is automatic when your term ends and you cannot shorten it. The pages we read don’t say whether you have to live in Michigan, whether a remotely notarized form is accepted, whether the Lansing office takes walk-ins, or whether there’s a fee. Sending the form doesn’t put you on the list by itself. If you hold an Internet Gaming Occupational License, as an online dealer does, placement revokes it.

Before you count on it. There is no mail, email or online way onto this list, and the form carries no submission address. MGCB-DPL@michigan.gov is the Board's removal mailbox; sending your application there enrolls you in nothing. Placement is for life. You can ask for removal no earlier than five years after placement, and it takes effect only when the Board notifies you in writing. The pages we read don’t say whether you have to live in Michigan or whether there’s a fee. Booking the appointment doesn’t put you on the list by itself.
| Four Winds casinos (Michigan and South Bend, Indiana): tribal casino exclusionTribal gaming commission Run by Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians (Pokagon Band Gaming Commission). | By email Email the form and ID selfie to GC.Investigators@PokagonBand-nsn.gov. | Confirmed | Confirmed | Not confirmed | Source says no | Not confirmed | Until a removal is approved | |
Before you count on it. This form only reaches Four Winds South Bend's gaming floor, hotel, on-site venues, and parking, plus the tribe's three Michigan Four Winds properties. It doesn't touch the Four Winds online casino, which the form leaves out. Four Winds runs a separate online exclusion for it, through your online account or a form on its own website, and its own page ties the online casino to Michigan. This program is run separately from Indiana's state-run VEP (a different card here). The Band's page says it recognizes every Indiana exclusion, VEP included, so your VEP enrollment already covers its casinos. Nothing published says a Pokagon exclusion puts you on the IGC list. A second exclusion becomes an involuntary lifetime bar. You can also ask in person at the Security department of any Four Winds casino for the Gaming Commission. The Band's page says a remote request may go by email, fax or US mail, but only the email address is published for exclusion requests. Filling out or emailing the form doesn't confirm the exclusion; it takes effect only once the Commission approves it.
| Michigan: FireKeepers Casino Hotel (Battle Creek)Tribal gaming commission Run by Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Gaming Commission. | By mail In person Online Enroll through NVSEP. Official form (Permanent Self-Exclusion order and notice, PDF created 2024-02-26) Program page | Confirmed | Confirmed | Not confirmed | Confirmed | Not confirmed | Until a removal is approved Lifetime is the only term this program offers. | |
Before you count on it. This exclusion is permanent unless the Executive Director sets another term. You can petition in writing for removal at most once a year. The Commission decides; it holds a hearing if the Gaming Commission staff or the casino opposes your return. It covers FireKeepers only and is separate from Michigan's statewide Disassociated Persons List; neither the packet nor the regulations say FireKeepers honors that list. Apart from NVSEP's confirmation of a submission made through it, nothing published says how you'll hear that you're enrolled.
| Michigan: Gun Lake Casino (Wayland)Tribal gaming commission Run by Gun Lake Tribal Gaming Commission. | By mail In person Mail the notarized form to the Gun Lake Gaming Commission. Official form (GLTGC Voluntary Self-Exclusion Request (undated)) Program page | Confirmed | Confirmed | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Confirmed | Depends on the term you pick Sign up for the longest exclusion time you can. Future you will thank you. | |
Before you count on it. This covers Gun Lake Casino only. It is separate from Michigan's statewide Disassociated Persons List, and the form doesn't say whether the casino honors that list. A one-year exclusion ends by itself after 365 days if you haven't broken it; breaking it moves you to the permanent list. A permanent exclusion is lifted only if the Commission Board grants a written request, made no sooner than a year in and at most once a year. Nothing published says how you'll hear that you're enrolled.

How we checked
These are the kinds of gambling we checked. The list may not include every way to gamble in the state.
Michigan has two Gaming Control Board lists, and they don't cover each other. The Disassociated Persons List is for the three Detroit commercial casinos. The Responsible Gaming Database is for internet gaming and internet sports betting, and its form says placement doesn't apply to exclusions by the Board or a licensed casino. The two enroll differently. The casino list is in person by appointment only, and its published email and mailing address are for removal only. The database accepts notarized applications in person, by email or by mail. The Board says tribal casinos are not subject to Michigan gaming laws. That sets the limit of what the state lists must cover. It doesn't tell us whether any tribal casino honors or extends a state exclusion, and we haven't confirmed any tribe's arrangements. Casino companies may also choose to extend restrictions to affiliated properties, and you can't rely on that. We haven't looked at retail lottery, racing or charitable gaming. We checked the official sources linked on this page, not every way to gamble in the state. Unless a program says otherwise, the sources we read don't say whether you have to live in Michigan to sign up.
How Michigan's programs fit together
Michigan has two separate Gaming Control Board lists, one for the three Detroit casinos and one for online casino and online sports betting, and neither is guaranteed to reach tribal casinos.
What we know about each one
The two lists don't cover each other, so you sign up for each separately. Neither guarantees exclusion from the physical tribal casinos, some of which run their own programs. Casino companies may also extend restrictions to other properties, and you can't rely on that. Signing up for both still doesn't cover every way to gamble in the state.
