Before you count on it. This covers one sportsbook account and nothing else. No self-exclusion route has been found for tavern video gambling machines, live poker, keno and bingo in Montana; the only published help located for them is the helpline. Resident and visitor eligibility for the exclusion is not established, though the account itself requires being physically in Montana when you bet. No confirmation mechanism is published; check that the account shows the exclusion as active. Opening the settings page does not confirm enrollment. | ||||||||

| online casino — online casino gambling | No program foundWhat we checked: Absent from the entire Title 23 chapter 5 gambling-regulatory scheme the Gambling Control Division administers statewide: online casino gambling is defined as prohibited internet gambling, not a licensed activity the division or any operator could run a self-exclusion program for.WhyMontana Code Annotated 23-5-112(23) defines "internet gambling" and states directly that online casinos, by whatever name known, constitute internet gambling and are prohibited outright. The same section, at 23-5-112(22)(d), excludes internet gambling from the definition of "gambling" itself, so the chapter the Gambling Control Division administers does not treat online casino play as a licensed activity with patron protections at all. 23-5-162(3) separately makes it a felony to operate an internet gambling site, including an online casino run through offshore sources, from within Montana. No self-exclusion program exists for online casino play because the state has banned the product rather than regulating it; there is no licensed operator or regulator scheme to enroll with. | 2 sources

How we checked
These are the kinds of gambling we checked. The list may not include every way to gamble in the state.
We found no statewide self-exclusion list for the gambling most people do in Montana. The Department of Justice Gambling Control Division regulates video gambling machines in taverns, live poker, keno and bingo. Its problem-gambling page, when we last read it, offered helpline referrals only and no self-exclusion program or form. A helpline-only page doesn't prove no route exists. The one program backed by a regulator is the Lottery's sports betting exclusion. It's a setting inside your Sports Bet Montana account, so you have to register for the sportsbook before you can use it. The Lottery's rule tells you to fill out an application on its website, but no such application is there, so that route can't be followed right now. Online casino gambling is banned in Montana, so there's nothing to sign up for. We found no self-exclusion for draw and scratch lottery, racing or fantasy sports in the state's laws and rules. We don't know yet whether tribal casinos offer self-exclusion. The compacts are reported not to require it, and the tribal sites we could reach list helplines only. A claim you may see online, that Montana runs a self-exclusion program under a specific statute, is false. That statute is about casino night permits. We checked the official sources linked on this page, not every gambling option in the state. We don't know yet whether people who live outside the state can use these programs.
How Montana's programs fit together
Montana's only self-exclusion we found is a setting inside your Sports Bet Montana account, and it doesn't reach tavern video gambling machines, live poker, keno or bingo.
What we know about each one
This is the only program we found, and it covers sports betting through your Sports Bet Montana account only. We found no way to exclude yourself from the gambling most people in Montana do. Signing up still doesn't cover every way to gamble in the state.
