Montana: sports betting through a Sports Bet Montana account

State regulator Run by Montana Lottery.

Montana's only regulator-backed self-exclusion is a control inside your Sports Bet Montana account, the Lottery's sports wagering product. It closes that account for at least six months. Video gambling machines in taverns, live poker, keno and bingo, which is where most Montana gambling happens, have no self-exclusion program that we could find; the Gambling Control Division's problem-gambling page publishes helpline referrals only, and that is not proof that none exists. Draw and scratch lottery, racing and tribal casinos are also outside it.

Reviewed 2026-09-17 against official sources. Every fact below links to the page it came from. How we check facts.

What it blocks

Covers Montana Lottery sports wagering through the account holder's own sportsbook account. It does not cover the gambling the Department of Justice Gambling Control Division regulates, which is where most Montana gambling happens: no self-exclusion program has been found for video gambling machines in taverns, live poker, keno and bingo. Draw and scratch lottery, racing and tribal casinos are also outside it. Whether the exclusion blocks anonymous retail kiosk bets is not stated: the Lottery's rules let it accept wagers through a retail sports wagering terminal without an account (ARM 2.63.1301(2)), and its Game Parameters bar persons on any exclusion list from placing wagers or collecting winnings, but no source says a terminal checks for an exclusion or that the Sports Bet Montana exclusion is that list.

Self-exclusion programs do not all block the same things. Here is what the official rules say about each one.

How to enroll, how long it lasts, and the sources

Terms you can choose

A minimum of six months, and the operator's terms allow a temporary or permanent exclusion. It cannot be reversed during the period. Removal is not automatic: the account must be manually reactivated after the period ends.

When it ends

A fixed term continues until you request removal; whether a permanent term exists, and what would govern it, is not established.

A fixed term. Removal is not automatic: after the chosen period ends the account has to be manually reactivated, so the exclusion continues until the person acts. The minimum is six months and the operator's terms also allow a permanent exclusion.

A lifetime term. Not verified: The operator's terms allow a permanent exclusion, but the sources do not say whether a permanent account exclusion can ever be reactivated.

How to enroll

Open Sports Bet Montana, go to My Account, then Self-Exclusion.

The control lives inside the sportsbook account. It requires an existing account, so if you do not have one you would have to register for the product in order to exclude yourself from it. The Lottery's rule mentions an application on its website, but no such application exists there.

  1. Sign in to your Sports Bet Montana account and open My Account, then Self-Exclusion. We cannot do this for you; there is no form and no mail or email route.
  2. Choose the length. The minimum is six months, and the operator's terms also allow an exclusion with no end date. It cannot be reversed during the period.
  3. While excluded, the account is closed, deposits and wagers are blocked, rewards or points are forfeited, and the operator sends no direct marketing. The Lottery's rules let retail terminals take bets without an account, and no source says whether your exclusion stops those. Whether it blocks anonymous retail kiosk bets is not stated anywhere.
  4. It does not lift on its own. After the period ends the account stays closed until you manually reactivate it.

Before you count on it. This covers one sportsbook account and nothing else. No self-exclusion route has been found for tavern video gambling machines, live poker, keno and bingo in Montana; the only published help located for them is the helpline. Resident and visitor eligibility for the exclusion is not established, though the account itself requires being physically in Montana when you bet. No confirmation mechanism is published; check that the account shows the exclusion as active. Opening the settings page does not confirm enrollment.

Every route we checked

Routes that enroll you

  • Online — the Sports Bet Montana account, under My Account then Self-Exclusion
The only established enrollment route. It requires an existing sportsbook account, so a person cannot pre-emptively exclude themselves without first registering for the product they are trying to avoid.
  • Online Not verified — an application at montanalottery.com
The binding rule directs applicants to complete an application and follow the procedure outlined at montanalottery.com, but no such application or procedure page exists there. Confirmed 2026-09-17: the likely addresses for it lead to page-not-found errors. The rule describes a route that cannot currently be followed.

Routes that get you a form or an answer, not an exclusion

  • By email — support@sportsbetmontana.com
Published for limit questions, cool-off reactivation and account closure. Never documented as accepting self-exclusion requests.
  • By email — montanalottery@mt.gov
Published as the contact for the rule. Not documented as an enrollment route.
