West Virginia: the iPlay online lottery account

State regulator Run by West Virginia Lottery Commission.

The West Virginia Lottery's separate tool for your online iPlay/iLottery account. It stops internet draw and instant-game play and second-chance promotion entries on that account for a length you choose, temporary or permanent. You set it yourself inside the logged-in account, or call the iPlay Support Center and ask them to set it. It reaches that account and nothing else: the Lottery states directly that an iPlay self-exclusion does not exclude you from sports betting, iGaming or casino activities, which go through the separate Self-Exclusion program. Enrolling here does not enroll you there.

What it blocks

Covers only the online iPlay/iLottery account: internet draw and instant-game play and second-chance promotion entries. The webpage states directly that "an iPlay Self-Exclusion does not exclude the player from Sports Betting, iGaming, LVL, and Casino activities. That must be done via the Self-Exclusion program." Casinos, iGaming, retail sports wagering and online sports wagering are the separate wv-self-exclusion program.

Self-exclusion programs do not all block the same things. Here is what the official rules say about each one.

How to enroll, how long it lasts, and the sources

Terms you can choose

Self-selected temporary or permanent duration, chosen in-account: "Select down arrow to select the length of self-exclusion." "An exclusion cannot be reversed. With the exception of a permanent exclusion, you will be able to sign into your iPlay Account with your previous credentials after the exclusion period ends."

Sign up for the longest exclusion time you can. Future you will thank you.

When it ends

A fixed term ends on its own at the end of the term; a lifetime term has no published way to lift it.

A fixed term. A temporary exclusion ends on its own at the length you chose, with nothing further to file: "With the exception of a permanent exclusion, you will be able to sign into your iPlay Account with your previous credentials after the exclusion period ends." It cannot be reversed before then. The permanent option is the exception and is covered below.

A lifetime term. A permanent exclusion is offered alongside the temporary lengths. The page states "an exclusion cannot be reversed" and carves out only temporary terms from the automatic restoration of access, and no Lottery publication describes a petition, appeal or any other way to end a permanent iPlay exclusion.

How to enroll

Open Self-Exclusion in your iPlay account.

The tool lives inside your logged-in iPlay account, under My Account, then Self-Exclusion. Pick a length from the dropdown and confirm it. If you cannot get into your account, call the iPlay Support Center at 1-833-376-0384 — the Lottery publishes that line as an alternative to the in-account tool. Signing in or opening the menu does not exclude you; choosing a length and confirming it does. No receipt or confirmation email is described anywhere, so check afterwards by trying to sign in.

  1. Sign in to your iPlay account and open My Account, then Self-Exclusion. There is no form to download and no paperwork to send.
  2. Use the dropdown to select how long the exclusion runs. You can choose a temporary length or a permanent one.
  3. Confirm it. Nothing beyond being logged in is described as required — no ID upload, no notary, no witness. Once it is in place, an exclusion cannot be reversed.
  4. If you cannot get into your account, call the iPlay Support Center at 1-833-376-0384 instead and ask them to set the exclusion. The Lottery publishes this as an alternative to the in-account tool.
  5. A temporary exclusion ends on its own at the date you chose, and your previous credentials sign you back in. A permanent exclusion has no published way to end.

Before you count on it. This reaches your iPlay online account and nothing else. The Lottery states, verbatim, that "an iPlay Self-Exclusion does not exclude the player from Sports Betting, iGaming, LVL, and Casino activities. That must be done via the Self-Exclusion program." So if you also play casinos, iGaming or sports betting, you have to enroll in that separate program as well. The LVL half of that sentence is disputed. It sends you to the Self-Exclusion program for Limited Video Lottery — the terminals in bars, taverns and clubs — but that program's own form and scope description never mention LVL, and Rule 179 CSR 5, the Limited Video Lottery rule read start to finish, sets out no exclusion mechanism of any kind. Two of the Lottery's own current statements disagree, nobody has asked the Lottery which one governs, and this card does not pick one. If you play LVL terminals, ask the Lottery directly before relying on either program to cover them — Customer Service on 800-982-2274. This tool also does nothing about lottery tickets bought in a store; no source describes any exclusion route for those. An exclusion cannot be reversed during its term, and a permanent one has no published way to end. No processing time and no confirmation email is published. It presumes you already have an iPlay account, and whether people outside West Virginia can enroll is not addressed. Signing in or opening the menu does not exclude you; only a confirmed length does.
